Temporary Suspension of Shipments from Brazil to the United States and Puerto Rico

On August 28, 2025, the Brazilian Postal Service (Correios) announced the immediate and temporary suspension of all shipments of goods destined for the United States and Puerto Rico. The measure was taken following changes in US import rules, which directly affect both individuals and businesses that rely on international shipping services.

What is suspended

  • All shipments of goods (merchandise, commercial samples, and gifts);
  • Applies to both individuals and businesses;
  • Enforced regardless of the nature of the shipment or declared value.

In other words: any shipment of goods from Brazil to the United States or Puerto Rico through Correios is suspended until further notice.

What is still allowed

Despite the restriction, it is still possible to send:

  • Documents internationally, by both individuals and businesses;
  • Available services: International Express Document and International Standard Document.

This means that official correspondence, contracts, certificates, declarations, or any other paper documents are still being accepted.

How long will the suspension last?

According to Correios, the suspension will remain in place until all necessary adjustments are made to comply with the new US import requirements.
No timeline has been announced for when services will return to normal.

Impact on importers and exporters

For businesses using Correios as a channel for exporting products, the suspension means:

  • Temporary halt of direct sales to the US via Correios;
  • Need to reassess logistics routes, considering private couriers or freight forwarders that comply with the updated US regulations;
  • Delays in pending orders, if the shipment has not yet been processed.
